Pioneering the Future of Global E-Commerce Logistics At Amazon, our mission is to be Earth's most customer-centric company. To achieve the breathtaking speed of our global delivery promise, our supply chain cannot sleep. While the world rests, the Amazon freight network shifts into high gear. The overnight linehaul division is the elite, stealthy backbone of our entire transportation operation, moving millions of pounds of critical inventory between major hubs while the highways are clear. We are actively seeking nocturnal, highly disciplined Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) professionals to pilot our fleet through the night. When you secure a night-shift driving career within the Amazon Freight Partner network, you are choosing a path of maximum efficiency, premium pay differentials, and absolute focus. If you are a "lone wolf" who thrives on open, empty roads and wants a heavy-haul driving career with unmatched home time, the Overnight CDL-A role is your ultimate destination. About the Role: Rulers of the Night Shift As an Amazon Overnight CDL-A Linehaul Driver, you are the elite vanguard of our middle-mile network. Piloting state-of-the-art, 2024-model Class 8 Day Cab tractors, you will haul massive 53-foot dry van trailers exclusively between Amazon Fulfillment Centers, Sortation Hubs, and Air Gateways under the cover of darkness. This role is strictly dedicated to "drop and hook" freight—meaning you will experience 100% no-touch operations. You will never waste your night sweeping out a trailer or arguing with a forklift driver on a loading dock. Your sole mission is the safe, uninterrupted highway transport of sealed trailers. Because you are operating overnight, you will bypass the agonizing gridlock of daytime rush hour, allowing you to maximize your driving miles, reduce your stress, and execute your routes with surgical precision. A Day in the Life of an Overnight Linehaul Driver Your "day" begins at 8:00 PM. You arrive at the quiet, secure Amazon truck yard, clocking in as the sun sets. You locate your assigned Day Cab tractor, which is equipped with advanced LED night-vision headlights and forward-collision radar. You execute a meticulous, DOT-compliant pre-trip inspection using your digital tablet. Logging into the Amazon Relay app, you receive your first dispatch: a high-priority load bound for a major Air Hub 200 miles away. You navigate the massive yard, smoothly back your tractor under a pre-loaded 53-foot trailer, connect your air lines, and merge onto the interstate. The highways are beautifully empty. You set your cruise control, listen to an audiobook, and enjoy the peaceful solitude that only the night shift provides. Upon arriving at the Air Hub, you drop the trailer in a designated slip, hook up to an empty trailer, and immediately hit the road back to your home terminal. You complete your shift as the sun rises, handing the keys to the day-shift driver, and head home to rest. Comprehensive and Detailed Responsibilities • Nocturnal Commercial Operations: Safely pilot a massive Class 8 commercial tractor-trailer across state lines during overnight hours. You must master the unique challenges of night driving, including managing reduced visibility, overcoming circadian fatigue, and anticipating the behaviors of other nocturnal highway traffic. • Seamless Drop-and-Hook Logistics: Execute rapid, highly efficient drop-and-hook procedures at towering Amazon mega-facilities. You must expertly back 53-foot trailers into tight, poorly lit staging slips, utilizing advanced mirrors and spatial awareness to ensure zero equipment damage. • Strict DOT & Safety Compliance: Maintain absolute, uncompromising adherence to all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. You will flawlessly manage your electronic logging device (ELD) to ensure strict compliance with hours-of-service rules, weight limits, and mandatory rest periods. • Advanced Telematics Utilization: Master the suite of onboard technology. You will utilize the proprietary Amazon Relay app for flawless GPS routing and gate access, while simultaneously managing the tractor's advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), such as lane departure warnings and adaptive cruise control. • Independent Problem Solving: Operate with extreme autonomy. Because management and support staff are leaner during the night shift, you must act decisively and independently to solve on-the-road challenges, such as unexpected road closures or sudden severe weather fronts. What Our Drivers Say: Real Employee Perspectives The night shift attracts a specific, highly dedicated breed of commercial driver. An experienced overnight linehaul driver recently stated: "Driving the night shift for an Amazon Freight Partner is the absolute best-kept secret in the trucking industry. While the day guys are sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic burning their hours, I am cruising at 65 miles an hour on totally empty interstates. The drop-and-hook system is incredibly fast because the warehouse yards are completely dead at 2:00 AM. I drive a brand-new truck, I make a massive shift differential premium on top of my base pay, and I still get to sleep in my own bed every single day. If you can handle the vampire schedule, there is no better, more stress-free way to make a living with a CDL." Industry-Leading Total Rewards and Benefits Amazon Freight Partners offer a dominant compensation package tailored specifically to reward the sacrifices of night-shift drivers: • Premium Nocturnal Compensation: Earn a highly lucrative base hourly wage (not volatile cents-per-mile) that is significantly boosted by a massive "night shift differential" premium. You are paid for every minute you work, including pre-trip inspections and any unavoidable delays. • Daily Home Time: Escape the grueling lifestyle of Over-The-Road (OTR) trucking. These are dedicated local and regional runs, ensuring you return to your home terminal at the end of every single shift. • Elite, Safe Equipment: Pilot the absolute safest trucks on the road. The fleet consists of ultra-modern, late-model Day Cabs fully loaded with advanced safety telematics, automatic transmissions, and premium air-ride ergonomic seating to save your back. • Total Healthcare & Future Security: Gain immediate access to full medical, dental, and vision insurance packages, alongside a 401(k) company match program and generous Paid Time Off (PTO). Basic Qualifications and Physical Requirements • Must be strictly 21 years of age or older to operate a commercial motor vehicle across state lines. • Must possess a valid, active Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) with a pristine Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) free of major infractions. • Must hold a current, valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate (Fed Med card). • Absolute willingness and physiological ability to work a permanent overnight schedule (e.g., 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM), including weekends and holidays as the supply chain demands. • Must successfully pass a rigorous DOT-regulated drug screening, background check, and be registered in the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
