Job Description Summary
THIS POSITION IS FOR BOTH RINKER AND ORANGE CAMPUS.
The Panther Pantry Receiving & Inventory Assistant is responsible for supporting the operational functions of the Panther Pantry by receiving food deliveries, managing inventory, organizing storage areas, and ensuring the pantry is fully stocked and prepared for weekly operations. This position plays a critical role in maintaining efficient pantry operations and ensuring food is handled in accordance with safety standards.
Responsibilities
• Receive and unload weekly food pantry deliveries from food bank partners and campus donors.
• Verify deliveries by checking quantities, inspecting product quality, and identifying damaged or expired items.
• Organize, sort, and store food and hygiene products following food safety standards and First In, First Out (FIFO) inventory practices.
• Stock pantry shelves, refrigerators, and freezers to ensure products are readily available for student distribution.
• Maintain accurate inventory by assisting with inventory counts and reporting low-stock items or discrepancies.
• Keep pantry storage areas, refrigerators, freezers, and workspaces clean, organized, and safe.
• Assist with processing, sorting, and organizing donated food and hygiene items.
• Prepare the pantry for daily operations by ensuring products are stocked, organized, and accessible.
• Safely lift, move, and transport boxes and pantry supplies throughout the facility.
• Provide support during pantry distribution hours as needed, including assisting students and answering basic questions.
• Follow all university policies and food safety procedures while handling pantry inventory.
• Communicate operational concerns, inventory shortages, or damaged products to the Pantry Coordinator in a timely manner.
• Work collaboratively with other Panther Pantry student employees and professional staff to support pantry operations.
• Complete additional operational tasks and special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Little to minimal prior experience. Ability to learn support process. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
Desired Qualifications
• Previous experience working or volunteering in a food pantry, food service, or customer-facing environment.
• Familiarity with food safety practices and handling procedures.
• Knowledge of or experience with Chapman University programs, services, or campus resources.
• Interest in student well-being, food security, or community engagement.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when managing inventory.
• Ability to take initiative, contribute ideas, and work collaboratively in a team setting.
