Pioneering the Future of Global E-Commerce Logistics At Amazon, our mission is to be Earth's most customer-centric company. Achieving this massive scale requires an unstoppable, highly synchronized "middle mile" logistics network. Before smaller delivery vans can bring packages to a customer's door, millions of pounds of freight must be rapidly transported across the country between our massive fulfillment centers, sortation facilities, and air hubs. The Amazon Freight Partner (AFP) program is the heavy-duty backbone of this supply chain. We are actively seeking elite, safety-obsessed Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) professionals to pilot our state-of-the-art fleet. When you secure a driving career within the Amazon network, you are not just getting a trucking job; you are partnering with an enterprise that values home time, invests heavily in cutting-edge vehicle safety telematics, and offers unmatched route stability. If you want a heavy-haul driving career that finally respects your work-life balance, this is the premier destination in the transportation industry. About the Role: The Backbone of the Middle Mile As a CDL-A Truck Driver operating for an Amazon Freight Partner, you are the undisputed heavyweight champion of our logistics network. You will be piloting brand-new, top-of-the-line Class 8 Day Cab tractors, hauling 53-foot dry van trailers exclusively between Amazon facilities. This is a dedicated "linehaul" role, meaning you will enjoy the absolute holy grail of the trucking industry: 100% no-touch, drop-and-hook freight. You will never be asked to manually load or unload a trailer, sweep out a dusty box, or wait for hours at a messy grocery distribution center. Your singular focus is safely moving trailers from Point A to Point B. Most importantly, the AFP network is designed around regional and local routes, meaning the vast majority of our drivers return home to their own beds at the end of every single shift. A Day in the Life of an Amazon Freight Driver Your shift starts at a secure Amazon designated truck yard. You clock in via your mobile device and locate your assigned, meticulously maintained Day Cab tractor. You conduct a rigorous, digital pre-trip inspection, checking air brakes, fifth-wheel locking jaws, and tire tread depth. Once cleared, you log into the Amazon Relay app, which serves as your digital dispatcher, GPS, and load manager. The app directs you to an Amazon Fulfillment Center just down the highway. Upon arrival, the automated gate security scans your app, and you proceed directly to your assigned parking slip. You drop your empty trailer, hook up to a fully loaded, pre-sealed 53-foot trailer, perform a tug test and a visual walk-around, and immediately hit the highway toward a Sortation Center 150 miles away. You spend your shift cruising the open road, completely insulated from warehouse labor. After completing your round-trip route, you return the tractor to your home yard, complete your post-trip inspection, and head home to your family. Comprehensive and Detailed Responsibilities • Commercial Vehicle Mastery: Safely operate a massive Class 8 commercial tractor-trailer combination in a wide variety of traffic, weather, and highway conditions. You must maintain an absolute, uncompromising commitment to safety, utilizing advanced onboard driver-assist technologies (like forward-collision mitigation and lane-departure warnings). • Drop-and-Hook Operations: Execute flawless drop-and-hook procedures at highly active, congested Amazon facilities. You must expertly back 53-foot trailers into tight staging slips and dock doors, properly secure landing gear, and manage gladhand air connections without causing equipment damage. • Regulatory DOT Compliance: Strictly adhere to all Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. You will maintain perfect electronic hours-of-service (HOS) logs and ensure your vehicle never exceeds gross weight limits. • Relay App Navigation: Utilize the proprietary Amazon Relay smartphone application to manage your entire itinerary. You will follow specific, truck-safe GPS routing, log gate arrival and departure times, and report any on-the-road delays directly to the digital dispatch center. • Professional Communication: Act as a consummate professional when interacting with Amazon yard marshals, TOM (Transportation Operations Management) team members, and security personnel, ensuring a frictionless flow of freight through the checkpoints. What Our Drivers Say: Real Employee Perspectives The trucking industry is notoriously grueling, but the Amazon Freight Partner network is changing the narrative. A veteran CDL-A driver recently shared: "I spent twenty years driving over-the-road (OTR), sleeping in truck stops and waiting unpaid for hours while warehouses unloaded my trailer. Switching to drive for an Amazon Freight Partner was the best career move I ever made. I drive a brand-new 2024 Peterbilt day cab, I literally never touch a single piece of freight because it is 100% drop-and-hook, and I am paid by the hour, not by the mile—so I get paid even if I'm stuck in traffic. Best of all, I park my truck at the end of my 12-hour shift and sleep in my own house every night. It is the most respectful driving job in the industry." Industry-Leading Total Rewards and Benefits Amazon Freight Partners offer a compensation package designed to attract and retain elite commercial drivers: • Hourly Compensation & Overtime: Forget the volatility of cents-per-mile (CPM) pay. You are paid a highly competitive, guaranteed hourly rate, meaning you are compensated fairly for every minute you are on duty, including traffic delays, weather stoppages, and pre-trip inspections, with massive overtime opportunities. • Unrivaled Home Time: The network is built for local and regional runs. Enjoy predictable, stable schedules that guarantee you are home daily, allowing you to maintain a healthy work-life balance and be present for your family. • Elite Equipment: Drive the newest, safest equipment on the road. The fleet consists of modern Day Cabs equipped with automatic transmissions, advanced telematics, comfortable air-ride seating, and climate control. • Comprehensive Health & Future Planning: Gain access to full medical, dental, and vision insurance packages, alongside paid time off (PTO) and 401(k) retirement matching programs. Basic Qualifications and Physical Requirements • Must be strictly 21 years of age or older to operate a commercial motor vehicle across state lines. • Must possess a valid, active Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) with a pristine Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). • Must hold a current, valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate (Fed Med card) proving your physical fitness to drive. • Must successfully pass a rigorous DOT-regulated drug screening and background check, and be registered in the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse. • Ability to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, adapting to the 24/7 nature of the logistics supply chain.
