Inventory Control Specialist- Day shift M-F $19.75/HR.

Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented Inventory Control Specialist to maintain accurate inventory records and ensure steel and metal products are properly received, identified, counted, documented, and tracked. This position will investigate inventory discrepancies, perform cycle counts, update ERP systems, and support annual physical inventory activities. The ideal candidate has experience working in a steel service center, metals warehouse, or similar industrial environment and understands steel grades, specifications, measurements, and inventory processes. Key Responsibilities • Maintain accurate counts and records of all inventory items. • Perform routine cycle counts and physical inventory counts. • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, shortages, overages, and receiving errors. • Reconcile inventory discrepancies with Operations and Warehouse leadership. • Enter inventory adjustments and updates into ERP/inventory management systems. • Maintain accurate documentation of inventory discrepancies, adjustments, and resolutions. • Assist management with annual inventory preparation and physical inventory activities. • Verify material quantities, dimensions, specifications, and identification. • Review receiving documentation and compare material against inventory records. • Communicate inventory issues and discrepancies to appropriate management personnel. • Maintain organized and accurate inventory documentation. • Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Required Qualifications • Previous experience in a steel service center, metals warehouse, or industrial warehouse environment. • Strong knowledge of steel and metal products, including carbon, alloy, stainless, and structural steel. • Understanding of steel grades, gauges, lengths, dimensions, and common steel terminology. • Ability to read and interpret mill certificates and material specifications. • Experience using inventory software, ERP systems, or warehouse management systems. • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel. • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. • Strong documentation and recordkeeping abilities. • Effective problem-solving and discrepancy-resolution skills. • Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with Operations leadership. • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and work safely in an active warehouse environment. Measurement & Material Verification • Ability to use calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and other measuring tools. • Ability to verify material dimensions and tolerances. • Ability to identify and verify material based on grade, specification, size, and documentation. Equipment & Safety • Forklift operation experience preferred/required. • Experience operating overhead cranes preferred/required. • Knowledge of safe rigging practices. • Ability to work safely around overhead cranes, steel products, processing equipment, and other warehouse machinery. • Must follow all required PPE and workplace safety procedures. Work Environment This position operates inside an active steel service center with overhead cranes, forklifts, steel products, and processing equipment. The environment requires strong safety awareness, clear communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work around heavy materials and industrial equipment.
