This unit is in the Operations Section and supports the division’s programs with respect to internal and external communications, stakeholder relations, special projects, and business process enhancements for better transparency and efficiency. What You Will Do This position fulfills a term-limited strategic role within the division. The EPS II will be a key stakeholder for multiple reporting and projects, coordinate and distribute reports, and provide crucial communications support for the unit and division. Key Responsibilities • Manage division and department reports • Risk communications • Communication unit support Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions Of Employment & Appeal Rights ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST II (I3A3**F) Minimum Qualifications Six (6) years of professional experience working in water quality or a related environmental field that included activities or responsibilities associated with technical assistance and/or regulatory compliance. OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in engineering, environmental science, environmental studies, geology, physics, public administration, or a closely related field of study related to the work assignment AND two (2) years of experience working closely within water quality or a related environmental field that included activities or responsibilities associated with technical assistance and/or regulatory compliance. OR A graduate degree in biology, chemistry, engineering, environmental science, environmental studies, geology, physics, or a closely related field will substitute and two of the years of required experience. In addition, part-time work will be prorated.** Preferred Qualifications And Essential Competencies The preferred experience, competencies and abilities are highly desirable for this position and will be considered in selecting the successful candidate: • Experienced at developing and delivering teaching materials. • Experience at presenting and training various stakeholder groups • Experience improving existing processes • Prior technical experience with drinking water, wastewater, and the federal and state regulations that govern their maintenance and operations. • Relevant years of State service shall be considered • Experienced and successful at providing technical assistance to a diverse customer base about protecting public health and the environment and compliance with rules or regulations. • Strong leadership capacity in order to coach and mentor staff and manage group processes • Experienced with emergency management planning, response, and recovery efforts. • Accountable for high quality and timely work products • Critical thinker with demonstrated talent for analyzing and assessing all sides of a question or an issue in order to make a more informed decision. • Ability to present ideas accurately, effectively, and concisely, both verbally and in writing • Results driven achiever with exemplary planning and organizational skills • Demonstrates initiative by identifying opportunities and issues, and proactively acts and follows through on work activities to capitalize or resolve them.
