Position Summary
The Driver transports patients between home and hospitals or vice versa. Primary duties include ensuring all policies/procedures are followed, ensuring the safety of the patient, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. Assists with performing routine clerical tasks, and other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent
AHA Basic Life Support
Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English
Valid California Driver’s License
Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
Current Management of Assaultive Behavior Certification (within first 30 days of employment)
Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only)
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families
Previous experience transporting patients

Essential Job Functions / Major Areas of Responsibility

Demonstrates excellent driving skills, following all policies/procedures and rules of the road. Transports patients according to daily schedule supplied by the dispatcher. Ensures that patient pick-up and drop-off is completed in timely manner based on the calculated route. Notifies dispatcher as appropriate when unforeseen delays occur. Recognizes and reports changes in the patient's condition, takes appropriate action and accurately documents all activities as required. Receives and accurately inventories and secures patient belongings as appropriate.
Transports patients while taking in consideration of patient age, gender, culture and stated preferences, maintaining patient privacy and respect at all times. Assumes responsibility for maintaining a clean & safe environment. Ensures Infection Control procedures and HIPAA compliance.
Checks conditions of vehicle per hospital policy and procedure and reports any unsafe conditions or repair needs to Transportation Director. Completes all logs as required.
Assists patient in and out of vehicle, as may be required. Requests assistance when appropriate for patient safety. Engages in caring behaviors, taking conscious ownership for work and takes proactive, deliberate, and thoughtful actions regarding work activities. Demonstrates appropriate use of independent judgement and decision making.
